3 Non-Taco Ways to Use Simply Organic Mild Taco Seasoning

Taco lovers unite — and in most cases agree, it’s always a good time for tacos. From the taste to the comfort, tacos bring so much of what we love to the table.  Why not take all that flavor and comfort and make it into more than just tacos?

Given the name “taco seasoning,” it appears that it serves one function: tacos. But the reality is, this seasoning blend is actually very versatile. Simply Organic Mild Taco Seasoning is a blend of spices including red chilis, cumin, onion powder, paprika and more that can spice up nearly any food.

Here are three of our favorite ways to use our taco seasoning — aside from tacos, of course...

1. Quick Taco Sour Cream

Adding Simply Organic Mild Taco Seasoning to sour cream makes a quick dip for freshly cut vegetables, a great base for other dips like seven-layer dip, or even thinned out for a delicious salad dressing.

Simply add 1 package of Simply Organic Mild Taco Seasoning to 16 ounces of organic sour cream and mix thoroughly. Then serve, or store in the refrigerator to be pulled out for a quick snack any time of day.

For a dairy-free option, mix it in an organic, unsweetened coconut-milk yogurt or cashew cream for the same effect.

2. Crispy Mexican Chickpeas

Crispy chickpeas are a great snack on their own, in or as a base for salads, mixed with beans as a new filling for burritos or even served as a side-dish. Crisp on the outside and tender on the inside — if you have yet to experience them, this is the way to do it. The added bonus? They have great nutritional value, making them a healthy snack or addition to any meal.

To make, preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Drain and rinse the chickpeas and lay them on a towel to dry. Then place them in a bowl with 1 tablespoon olive oil and 3 tablespoons Simply Organic Mild Taco Seasoning. Mix thoroughly and place on cookie sheet. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, turning once or twice. Remove, let cool and use or store.

3. Mexican-Spiced Quinoa Sauté

Quinoa is another versatile food that can be used in many dishes. From a base food like rice to salads and even lettuce wrap filling, quinoa and taco seasoning together provide numerous possibilities.

Simply simmer 2 to 3 cups cooked quinoa with 2 tablespoons Simply Organic Mild Taco Seasoning and ¼ cup water, until quinoa is tender and flavorful.

You can add other veggies to this mixture, like onion, garlic and bell peppers for a Mexican skillet, and top with cilantro and avocado. Or, as mentioned earlier, use it in a lettuce wrap and top with all of your favorites like tomatoes, onions, lettuce and a dollop of Mild Taco sour cream from the recipe above.

Versatility and Layers

Versatility is really your friend in the kitchen. Spice combinations like this Simply Organic Taco Seasoning blend help provide just that. Now it’s time to get creative. Try one or two of these combinations and layer them together for a perfect meal or snack to be enjoyed all week long.
