Ingredients
- For the Crust:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt or pink Himalayan salt
- 1 cup flour
- For the Apple Layer:
- 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon Simply Organic Five Spice Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Simply Organic Cinnamon
- 1 pinch sea salt or pink Himalayan salt
- For the Pecan Crumble:
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/4 cup pecans, roughly chopped
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon Simply Organic Five Spice Powder
- 1/8 teaspoon Simply Organic Cinnamon
- 1 pinch sea salt or pink Himalayan salt
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed
Directions
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees and line an 8-inch pan with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine butter, sugar and salt. Mix until well combined. Add flour and mix until just combined.
- Press mixture into pan and place in freezer for 10 minutes, then bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until golden brown.
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine apples, flour, sugar, five spice powder, cinnamon and salt. Stir until well combined, then set aside.
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine flour, pecans, brown sugar, five spice powder, cinnamon and salt. Whisk until well combined.
- Use your fingertips to work the butter into the mixture until coarse clumps start to form. Place in refrigerator until ready to use.
- Increase oven temperature to 350 degrees.
- Layer apples on hot crust, pressing down evenly. Top with crumble and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until apples are tender and bubbling, and crumble is golden brown.
- Remove from oven and let cool completely before slicing into bars.
