This cherry margarita recipe brings together sweet cherries, tart lime, and a splash of organic vanilla flavoring made from real vanilla beans for a refreshing margarita that’s summery and beautiful.

NOTE: Makes enough syrup for 8 cocktails. Multiply the liquor and lime juice measurements for the number of cocktails you plan to make.

Ingredients

  • For the Cherry Syrup:
  • 1 cup fresh cherries, pitted and halved
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup cane sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Simply OrganicĀ® Pure Vanilla Flavoring
  • For Each Cocktail:
  • 1 1/2 ounces tequila
  • 1/2 ounce orange liqueur
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 ounce cherry syrup
  • For garnish: Luxardo or Maraschino cherries, lime wedges
  • For the Rim:
  • 1 tablespoon sea or Himalayan pink salt
  • 1 teaspoon lime zest

Directions

To Make the Syrup:
  1. Into a small saucepan over medium heat, add cherries, water and sugar. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and let cook for about 8 minutes, until cherries are very soft.
  2. Remove from heat and strain through a fine mesh sieve. Whisk in vanilla flavoring, then let syrup cool completely.
To Rim the Glasses:
  1. On a shallow plate, mix together salt and lime zest.
  2. Run a lime wedge around each rim to moisten, then dip rim in salt and lime zest mixture.
To Make the Margarita:
  1. Into a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice and cherry syrup.
  2. Shake well, then strain into rimmed glass. Repeat for each margarita. Garnish with Luxardo cherries and a lime wedge (optional).
