A brunch casserole recipe that comes together in just a few minutes and creates a perfect hearty breakfast for cool fall mornings and holidays. The sausage gravy can even be prepared ahead of time – just increase the baking time a bit to account for the refrigerator chill.

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a large skillet, brown sausage for about 5 minutes, until no longer pink.
  3. Sprinkle gravy mix over sausage in skillet and stir until well coated. Add milk and stir well, scraping any browned bits off bottom of pan.
  4. Add black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 3 to 4 minutes, until gravy thickens. Stir in cheese until melted, then remove from heat.
  5. Transfer gravy to a 9-x-13-inch baking dish. Place biscuits on top and brush tops with butter.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes, then cover with aluminum foil and bake for 10 minutes more. Remove from oven and enjoy warm.
