Groundswell Café

Matthew 25 is an Iowa nonprofit that empowers people to transform neighborhoods by giving families access to safe housing, fresh food and opportunities for creative expression.

One of their many projects, Groundswell Café, is a “pay-it-forward” eatery devoted to providing the Cedar Rapids community with access to fresh, healthy food — regardless of one’s ability to pay. Patrons have the option to round up their bills or make a donation to help pay for a meal for someone who can’t afford it. Guests unable to pay can enjoy their food at no cost, reducing food insecurity and making healthy options more accessible in a neighborhood where more than 75% of students are eligible for free or reduced lunches.

Groundswell Café will receive a $15,000 grant from Simply Organic in 2023 to continue providing free, healthy meals to residents who need it.
