Coastal Roots Farm

Coastal Roots Farm in Encinitas, California is a nonprofit Jewish community farm that cultivates healthy communities by integrating sustainable agriculture and food justice. The farm operates by traditional Jewish values that concern how we treat our neighbors, share belongings, observe the passing of time, celebrate and improve, consume ethically, practice sustainability, care for plants and animals, understand the natural world and create a vibrant, thriving community.

From a 17-acre piece of land, the farm distributes about 40,000 pounds of food to 20,000 low income seniors, active duty military and veterans, families, migrants and Holocaust survivors each year through a “pay what you can” farm stand and direct donations to local hunger relief organizations. The farm also offers hands-on education and experience through school and group visits, farm tours, volunteer opportunities, Jewish agriculture festivals and other community events.

A $15,000 contribution from Simply Organic in 2020 will support the ongoing operation of the farm’s Produce Donation Program which provides people facing food insecurity in North San Diego County access to organics in a manner that promotes dignity and self-sufficiency.
