Finjan Kirfee (Syrian Spice Drink)
Composed of steeped spices, this drink is considered to be healthful and is traditionally served by Syrians to visitors who drop by to welcome the birth of a baby.
Ingredients
2 cinnamon sticks
2 whole cloves
2 tablespoons coarsely chopped ginger
1 tablespoon anise seeds
some sugar to taste (optional)
4 whole almonds or walnuts for garnish

Directions
Combine the spices in a saucepan along with 1 quart of water and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Boil the mixture until the water turns dark. Strain the mixture into a serving pot. Season to taste with sugar.
To serve, add a nut to each cup, pour the drink into the cups, and serve.
