Spicy Chicken Drumsticks
Gather a group, and we guarantee they won’t be disappointed after sampling these drumsticks. Chili pepper, garlic, cumin, and cayenne are key components -- combined with a pinch of allspice and cloves to create just the right amount of heat.
6 pounds chicken drumsticks
1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1/4 cup honey
1 package
Party-Size Spicy Chili Seasoning Mix Broil chicken on high for 20 to 30 minutes. (Chicken will not be fully cooked.)
Meanwhile, prepare the sauce by combining all remaining ingredients together, stirring until thoroughly mixed.
Dip each piece of chicken into sauce and place in crockpot. Pour remaining sauce over the chicken, and cook on low for about 4 hours or on high for 2 to 2 ½ hours. Stir half way through cook time to help ensure that the chicken is evenly coated in sauce.
For a healthier version: Remove skin from drumsticks, use no-salt-added tomato sauce and reduced-sodium soy sauce. These modifications will save 70 calories, 7g fat, 45mg cholesterol, and 280mg of sodium per serving.
For a smaller batch: Use regular-size (28g)
Spicy Chili Seasoning Mix, 2 pounds chicken, 1/4 cup tomato sauce, 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar, 2 teaspoons soy sauce, and 4 teaspoons honey.
If you don’t want to use a crockpot, bake the chicken in oven and dip in sauce about 10 minutes before the end of the cook time. Return to oven and finish cooking.
