Seeded Spice Sticks
The combination of black and white sesame seeds makes for very dramatic, and very addictive, appetizers. Feel free to experiment with different varieties of seeds and spices to create your own unique treat.
1 large egg yolk
1 teaspoon water
1 package (17.3-ounce) frozen puff pastry (2 sheets), thawed for 30 minutes
1 teaspoon
cumin seeds, crushed
1 teaspoon
salt 1 tablespoon
white sesame seeds 1 tablespoon
black sesame seeds Preheat oven to 400°F.
Beat yolk with water in a small cup.
Roll out 1 pastry sheet to a 12x16-inch rectangle on a lightly floured board. Brush with yolk mixure. Sprinkle with half the cumin, half the salt, half the white sesame seeds, and half the black sesame seeds. Roll top lightly with rolling pin; let stand 5 minutes.
Turn pastry over, seed-side down, and brush top with yolk mixture. Fold in half crosswise. Roll into a 10x16-inch rectangle. Cut along the 10-inch side into 3/4-inch-wide strips. Twist strips; arrange 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake 10 to 12 minutes, until golden. Repeat with remaining puff pastry, seeds and salt.
