Organic Training in Sri Lanka

The Simply Organic 1% Fund provided a $25,000 grant to support the construction of an organic training center by our valued Well Earth partner, the Small Organic Farmers Association (SOFA) in Sri Lanka. SOFA is a 2,043-member cooperative of small scale, organic farmers that is committed to organic agriculture and Fair Trade. Simply Organic sources nutmeg, cloves, and turmeric from SOFA.

The training center educates farmers on sustainable cropping techniques such as composting, erosion control, rain harvesting, and natural pest management. In addition to providing a classroom setting, the center is also a fully functional research and development farm, allowing the growers to immediately put their education to use with hands-on field demonstrations and exercises.
